Erste Bank Ice Hockey League in the ancient Pula Arena
October 2012Where gladiators fought 2,000 years ago, on 14 September Medvescak Zagreb met Olimpija Ljubljana and, two days later, Vienna Capitals. Icefantasy rose to the challenge of transforming the arena into a 7,000-seater ice stadium for professional ice hockey, creating a 57 x 26 metre ice surface. The ice, 5-7 cm thick, had no trouble withstanding the warm temperatures, wind and stormy conditions. In the unique atmosphere of the Roman amphitheatre, Medvescak Zagreb beat Vienna Capitals 4:1, with the Croatian team celebrating yet another victory on the occasion of this historic event. The defeat, the Capitals’ first of the season, saw Villach retake the top spot in the table.
